Computer ke wo sabhi physical components ya kathor parts, jinse milkar computer bana hota hai, use Hardware kahte hain. Hardware computer ke wo parts hote hain, jo software ko use karne ke liye banaye jaate hain. Monitor, CPU, Keyboar d, Mouse etc. computer ke physical parts hain, jinhe hardware kahte hain, jinhe hum touch kar sakte hain. Hardware computer me software ke according hi lagaye jaate hain, taaki hardware ke dwara software ko easily access kar sakein.

Software chote chote programs ke group hote hain, jinke dwara hardware ko control kiya jata hai. Computer program chote chote instructions se bante hain, jinhe software kahte hain. Iska use user ki zarurat ke anusaar alag alag type se aur alag alag field mein hota hai. Software computer ka internal part hota hai, jise touch nahi, sirf dekha ja sakta hai. Software computer ki memory hota hai aur hardware iski body, jis tarha human body bina memory ke bekaar hoti hai, usi tarha computer bhi software ke bina kisi kaam ka nahi hai.

Computer software mainly three types ke hote hain:-

1. System Software

2. Application Software

3. Utility Software

1.System Software:-

System software aise software hote hain, jinka use system ke process ko control karne ke liye kiya jata hai. Ye bahot hi difficult program hote hain, jinhe chalane ke liye user ko iski knowledge hona bahot zaruri hai. Operating System system software ka example hai jiske dwara computer easily run karta hai.

2.Application Software:-

Application software aise software hote hain, jo computer aur user ke beech relation create karte hain. Application software computer ka bahot hi important part hai, jiske bina computer ek usless box hai. Application software ke bina user computer par koi bhi kaam nahi kar sakta. Application software ka ek bahot hi bada example MS-Office package hai, jisme bahot saare useful wordprocessing software hain like –MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-PowerPoint, MS-Access etc. jo humein word processing ki facility provide karte hain.

3.Utility Software:-

Utility software ek special type ke program hote hain, jinka use computer aur uski devices ko manage aur powerful banane ke liye kiya jata hai. Ye software computer ke liye zyada important nahi hote aur inke bina bhi computer ko run karaya ja sakta hai, isliye ise Service Program bhi kahte hain, jinke use se computer aur asaani se kaam karta hai. Antivirus, Notepad, Disk Defragmenter, System Profilers etc. utility software ke example hain.
